1st answer-- it is because the body after running or doing heavy exercise needs oxygen. and rate of breathing increases so that more oxygen can be supplied to our body.
2nd answer-- if there are no platelets in the blood our blood wouldn't stop flowing as platelets play the role of clotting blood and if there aren't any there would be a huge loss of blood and we can even die.
