Lately, whenever I have been trying to play a 720p MKV file in Media Player Classic, it lags. Sometimes it plays without problems for about five or ten minutes, then it starts to lag. If I close and reopen the player or pause for a few minutes, the file will play smoothly again for a short period of time. This is only something that started a few weeks ago. Do I not have enough RAM (2.00 GB)?
Is there some way to stop the lag or fix the problem?

Try using VLC Media Player

You should look at your task manager when it lags to see what is using up your resources. You look at the memory and cpu usage. Other than that you can try uninstalling any recently installed programs and also completely removing your MKV encoders, drivers and players then reinstalling. Probably a good idea to clean your registry and temp files and restart before reinstalling all the stuff to play MKV files.
Hi, find a low cpu-cost media player for you, it can:
Optimized with MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3 Intel CPU instructions and support Multi-Core CPU and Hyper-Threading technology. Under 10% CPU cost on i5 CPU when playing 1080P AVCHD video.

Yeah, that's an HD video. Unless you recently bought an expensive computer, you aren't gonna be able to watch it, especially with only 2Gs of RAM.
Thankyou! Very informative and this gives me better knowledge on this subject
I feel your pain!I have 192 mb of ram!You will need lower quality video!
I do not consider that is right
