A ladder 13 m long reaches a window which is 12 m above the
ground on one side of the street. Keeping its foot at the same
point, the ladder is turned to other side of the street to reach a
window of 5 m high. Find the width of the street.

Answer:
Length of ladder =13 m.
BC=12m,AC=13 m.
In ΔABC,
AB ^2 +BC ^2=C^2
(Pythagoras theorem)
AB ^2 =AC ^2 −BC ^2
=13 ^2 −12 ^2
=169−144
=25
∴AB=5 m.
∴ The distance of the foot of the ladder from the base of the wall =5 m
