My Findings:
1) Initially the Copper sulphate solution is blue in colour and the iron nail is grey.
2) After pouring copper sulphate solution in a test tube containing iron nail, it is observed that the blue colour of Copper sulphate solution slowly but surely turns green.
3) When the Iron nail is removed from the test tube, it is now coated with a brownish colour on its surface.
Conclusion:
1) The colour change of the solution indicates that Iron (Fe) has displaced Copper (Cu) from Copper Sulphate (CuSO₄ - blue colour) to form Iron Sulphate (FeSO₄ - green colour).
2) Meanwhile the Copper from the Copper sulphate solution gets coated on the Iron nail, thus giving it a brownish colour.
Fe + CuSO₄ → FeSO₄ + Cu
This reaction represents a simple displacement reaction.
Hope it helps!!
