All the animals do not have same number of rods and cones. Some animals have a greater number of rods while other have a greater number of cones. the rods are very sensitive to light, but cannot detect colour (basically, they worked as black and white, also known as "greyscale"). the cones detect particular range of colour. we have three types of cone cells, while birds have five.
