I only recently started watching the show and in the series finale, they called the daughter by her mother's name repeatedly. I went on imdb.com and her name is listed as Rory, so what's up with that?
Die-hard fans give me some clues!

Yes, Rory's full name is Lorelai. Lorelai (her mom) has always said that she was in the hospital whacked out on Demerol and she thought, "Men always name their sons after themselves, so why can't I?" And she did. I think their middle names are different, though. Rory is supposed to be a nickname for Lorelai.
Rory Gillmore
Yes, they both have the first name Lorelai - they are named after Richard's mother who is also named Lorelai. They just call the youngest one Rory for short.
Yes Rory's first name is actually Lorelei after her mother. She has always been called Rory though since the beginning of the show.
Yes they do share the same name.
