Cell cycle consists of two states, a long nondividing growing Iphase and a short dividing Mphase. Iphase (interphase) is divisible into three stages, G1, S and G2. Therefore, there are following stages in cell cycle
(i) G1 phase - first growth phase or post mitotic gap phase.
(ii) S phase - synthetic phase
(iii) G2 phase - second growth phase or premitotic gap phase
(iv) M phase (mitotic phase)
The CORRECT sequence of steps in the eukaryotic cell cycle is:
G1 → S phase → G2 → mitosis → cytokinesis.
