Question :
A 6Ω resistance is connected in the left gap of a meter bridge. In the second gap 3Ω and 6Ω are joined in parallel. The balance point of the bridge is at ___
Answer :
Let distance of null point from point A be x cm
Therefore distance of null point from point B will be (100 - x) cm.
In meter bridge, if balance point is obtained at x cm from the zero end, then
Where R₁ denotes resistance in the first gap and R₂ denotes resistance in the second gap.
Equivalent resistance of second gap :
➝ R = 3 × 6 / (3 + 6)
➝ R = 18/9
➝ R = 2Ω
By substituting the values, we get
⭆ 6 / 2 = x / (100 - x)
⭆ 3(100 - x) = x
⭆ 300 = 4x
⭆ x = 75 cm
∴ The balance point of the bridge is at 75 cm from zero end.
