The origin of life started with chemical evolution.
In Chemical evolution organic molecules like nucleotides, simple sugars, amino acids etc were from chemical reactions which were powered by U.V rays, lighting and Volcanic eruption . The reactions occurred in the nutrient rich ocean of the primitive earth and these reactions inorganic molecules gave rise organic molecules which combined to give rise to primitive cell like structures called coacervates .
The first single cell organism had RNA as it's genetic material but RNA proved to be an unstable molecule as it often changed its molecular makeup during cell division and this process is known as mutation . Then organisms with DNA evolved which is more stable than RNA and organisms with DNA don't get mutated often . Today most of the organisms have DNA as the genetic material.
Answer:
The earliest known life - forms on earth are putative fossilized microorganisms, found in hydrothermal vent precipitations, that may have lived as early as 4.28 billion years ago, relatively soon after the oceans formed 4.48 billion years ago, and long after the formation of the earth 5.54 billion years ago.
