A solvent is substance which is mostly a liquid in which other substances (solutes) can get dissolved. Water is a universal solvent.
the substance which is dissolved in the water is called solute...eg.. sugar, salt..
and the substance in which solute dissolved is called solvent..eg.. water.
the mixture of solute and solvent is called solution...
