Land area under cultivation was fixed in Palampur which could not be extended more. This was the basic constraint in raising farm production in the village. Farming was the main economic activity in the village. 75% of the population of the village was engaged in the farming. Either they used to work as farmers or farm labourers. There were some wastelands earlier, but they were also converted into cultivable land. Now there was no scope to expand the land area under cultivation. Therefore, increasing farm production by bringing new land under cultivation became very difficult for the people of Palampur.
