Step-by-step explanation:
Given :-
Four time the sum of two number is 140. The difference between greater and smaller is 13.
To find :-
Find the numbers ?
Solution:-
Let the two numbers be X and Y
Where X > Y
The bigger number = X
The smaller number = Y
Given that
Four time the sum of two number = 140
=> 4 ( X + Y ) = 140
=> X + Y = 140/4
=> X + Y = 35 ----------(1)
And
The difference between greater and smaller= 13
=> X - Y = 13 ----------(2)
On adding (1)&(2) then
X + Y = 35
X - Y = 13
(+)
__________
2 X + 0 = 48
__________
=> 2X = 48
=> X = 48/2
=> X = 24
On Substituting the value of X in (2) then
24 - Y = 13
=> 24 = Y+13
=> Y = 24 - 13
=> Y = 11
Therefore, X = 24 and Y = 11
Answer:-
The required two numbers are 24 and 11
Check :-
The two numbers are 24 and 11
Four time the sum of two numbers
=> 4×(24+11)
=> 4×35
=> 140
and
Their difference = 24-11 = 13
