Answer:
History repeats itself
History is the record of the past of the human race. History provides us a glimpse of past decades and centuries. When we trace history right from its beginning to the recent times, we notice that events have a repetitive quality. The concept of historic recurrence is applied to the overall history of the world. The economic, political and social events as well as human ideologies tend to repeat themselves in the history of the world. The repetitive patterns of any two specific events bear a striking similarity.
That history repeats itself is not a new discovery. The ancient Greeks regarded history as a cycle of events that repeated itself endlessly. As we look back at history, we find that there is no dearth of historical evidences to justify the view that history repeats itself. Wars and destruction were always a part of human history. The causes and the origin of wars remain almost the same. Powerful rulers and empires have come and gone. The new rulers and powers that emerged are not so different from their predecessors. The consequences of war and destruction are always similiar, huge expenditures, lost of properties and lost of life.
At different stages of history we have teachers, reformers and religious leaders emphasising similar set of values and virtues for the good of mankind. For instance, the fundamental message delivered by Buddha, Mahavira, Guru Nanak, and Mahatma Gandhi for the welfare of humanity is very similar.
However, in spite of history repeating itself to reveal human mistakes and the painful consequences they causes, it seems man never learnt from past experience. Wars continue to this day on a larger and global scale. Wars were fought in the ancient past mainly for dominance, extension of territories and natural resources. The motives of wars and conflicts, the tension between nations remain the same today. Thus, the logical conclusion is that history indeed repeats itself.
