Take a bar magnet and place it on a table.
Take a cardboard(or paper) and place it on the magnet.
Sprinkle some iron dust(small particles of iron) on the cardboard and tap the corner slowly.
You will see the iron dust arranging itself in pattern similar to the magnetic field of a bar magnet.
You will see that the number of lines is very dense near the poles and very loose near the middle.
It shows that the magnetic field strength is high near the poles.
