The British East India Company was at war with the alliance of Indian states that was composed of Bengal, Awadh, and the Mughal Empire. This consisted of 40,000 men and was defeated by a British army comprising 10,000 men. The Nawabs had virtually lost their military power after the battle of Buxar.
