Before british rule, forests were domestically used to get wood, fuel and other forest products like leaves, medicinal plants, fruits, etc.
During the British rule, they were a medium of income. Forests were commercially used for exporting rubber, fuel and other expensive forest goods. Villagers were prohibited to enter the forests. Animals were stopped from grazing.
