I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop that shut down and won't turn on (I think I short-circuited the motherboard). Is there a way to reset to factory settings when turned off before I send it to get fixed?

How to factory reset a Dell Xps 15 laptop?
Verified answer
it has to be working in order to factory reset it. the factory reset is saved on the hard drive, so if that is bad, then they will have to do it. they usually don't go onto peoples' computers unless they NEED to. once they replace the board, they will likely just power it on to be sure it can load to Windows, then turn back off and return to you. then you can factory reset it if you want.
It has to work in order to fix it, otherwise you will have to return the laptop with your info on it....
You can't reset it without it being on. Just turn it in to the techs to repair ( if they can). They aren't interested in the contents, only in getting it to work.
If it doesn't power on, you can't reset it.
You kinda need the motherboard to actually be operating to change settings.
You can always pound the motherboard into dust to put it into a pre-factory state.
You have to be able to turn it on before you can do a Factory Reset (Clean Install of the OS).
