First of all you didn’t study. This may sound harsh, but its true. If you have the attitude that your friends didn’t study and did better than you who studied, you will never make any progress. Accept the fact that you didn’t study. People who ‘study’ get back the hours they put in. If you are not getting back those hours then you are not studying.I was also caught in this trap so I know what’s like. After you have allowed that to sink in here’s my advice:
First of all CONGRATULATIONS!! (This is not sarcastic) You have experienced failure, this is when your efforts and strategies do not yield desirable results. A lot of people don’t get this opportunity until they are much older and because of that it affects them terribly.
Within reason, do the opposite of what you previously did. Most people that ‘study’ and get bad results got in the trap of taking a ludicrous amount of notes and they spent their time re-reading and copying their notes. WRONG, this is a really passive way to study, it takes too much time and the results are not that great.
Your revision should be 20% note-taking and 80% practice questions/ practice exams. All an exam tests is your ability to regurgitate information and apply it to scenarios, if the question asks you to do so. Focus more on opening the passage way between getting the information in your head to paper. This can only be achieved by practicing. I store my notes in an A6 pocketbook and I use it as a reference guide when I’m stuck. Practice questions gives you a clear idea of what you know and don’t, so you know what you need to make notes on.
Practice Regularly.
Stop comparing yourself. It favours no-one.
