Question : -
If 10gm of ice is at 0°C is mixed with 10gm of water at 10°C ,the. the resultant temperature is ??
Answer
Given : -
10gm of ice is at 0°C is mixed with 10gm of water at 10°C
Required to find : -
Solution : -
Let the resultant temperature be “T”
Ice
Mass = 10gm
Initial temperature = 0°C
Specific heat = 0.5
Final temp. (Resultant temperature) = T
∆ in temp. = (T - 0) = (T)

Similarly,
Water
Mass = 10gm
Initial temperature = 10°C
Specific heat = 1
Final temp. = T
∆ in temp. = (10 - T)

By applying principle method of mixtures !!
Here, Q = Heat energy
__________________
We know that !!
Q = ms∆t
This implies;
Heat lost by water = Heat gained by Ice
(10) x (1) x (10 - T) = (10) x (0.5) x (T)
10 gets cancelled on both sides
(10 - T) = (1)/(2) x T {since, 0.5 = 1/2 }
10 - T = (T)/(2)
2 (10 - T) = T
20 - 2T = T
» T + 2T = 20
3T = 20
T = (20)/(3)
T = 6.666---
T ≈ 6.67
Therefore,
Resultant temperature (T) ≈ 6.67
