1.The main political cause for the great revolt of 1857 was the policy of Doctrine of Lapse. It was an annexation policy purportedly used by Lord Dalhousie as per which any princely state or territory under the British East India Company would automatically be annexed if the ruler died without a male heir.
2.In 1824, the Sepoys were ordered to go to Burma crossing the sea to fight for East India Company. The sepoys refused to it as they believed if the cross the sea or “Kalapani” they will lose their caste and religion. They also believed that crossing seas is impure and bring bad luck. So they refused to go to Burma
