The monomers for nylon 6-6 are adipic acid and hexamethylene diamine. The two molecules are combined to create the polymer and water (H2O) is produced as a by-product. The water is removed from the production process as its continued presence stops the creation of more polymer.

Nylon is polymer made of chemical units called polyamides. Polyamides are made with monomers, hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid.Solid chips of these polyamides are melted and forced through a heated spinneret which has very, very tiny holes.Thesize and shape of the holes change, the characteristics of the resulting fibre. The fibre solidifies as it cools and can be spun or woven.
