They have their own DNA which can replicate independently. Mitochondria are called semi-autonomous organelle because they have their own DNA and ribosomes and can synthesise their own proteins. Mithocondria has its own dna,ribosomes 70s which are capable of producing their own proteins and replicate their own Dna.
