My doubt:- The sodium atom should take 7 electrons to complete 8 electrons in the outermost shell. But why did the atom forsakes 1 electrons?

It is a very common doubt
You must know that atoms either share, gain or lose electrons to form compounds and attain noble gas configuration
In order to gain electron, sodium requires a lot of energy, which is not possible in normal conditions
Before losing one electron, no. of electrons is 11 in sodium atom
So, Sodium loses one electron, and total number of electrons is sodium now is 10, which has a fully filled shell (K=2, L=8) which is the configuration of Neon, a noble gas
Hope it helps
