Structure of the thallus. In almost all fungi the hyphae that make up the thallus have cell walls. (The thalli of the true slime molds lack cell walls and, for this and other reasons, are classified as protists rather than fungi.) A hypha is a multibranched tubular cell filled with cytoplasm.
