Question:-a solid cone of height H and radius H/2 floats in a liquid of density p. It is hanging from the ceiling with the help of a string .The force exerted by the fluid on the curved surface area of the cone is?
Solution:-
we know that
force at height h in liquid=(p0+pgh)×area
But in the given question , question height is not fixed .It is continuously changing,at every point.
so,we have to use the method of integration...
let us take,a ring of the part of the cone of radius r and breadth dr at heght h from the top
in that case,, using the similarity property of triangle we can say that
h=2r
force exerted on that ring=(p0+pgh)×2πrdr
putting h=2r,we get
force on small ring=dr=(po+2rpg)×2πrdr=(2πrpo+4πr^2pgdr)
force exerted by liquid on cone={Integration of(2πrpo+4πr^2pg)dr from r0 to H/2}
on integrating we get
=>F=πH^2(Po/4 +pgh/3)
Hence option1) is the correct one
{hope it helps}
