He wishes that sleep came to him at least that night. Without sleep he will not be able to enjoy the splendour of the morning. Sleep brings fresh thoughts and joyous health. ‘To Sleep’ is a sonnet. A sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines. It is divided into two parts. The first eight lines form the Octave and the last six lines form the sestet. In the Octave of the poem the poet describes the beautiful sights and sounds of nature that fill his imagination. In the sestet, the poet describes the condition without sleep. He prays and wishes that sleep should come with its blessings. The poem is rich with figures such as personification, alliteration, hyperbole, rhetorical question, and so on. The rhyme scheme used in the poem is abba abba cde cde. On the whole this is a beautiful sonnet.
