Answer:
Present age of man = 40 years.
Present age of son = 10 years.
Step-by-step explanation:
Let the present age of man be 'x'.
Let the present age of son be 'y'.
Age of man = (x - 5)
Age to son = (y - 5)
According to question,
(x - 5) = 7 (y - 5)
⇒ x - 5 = 7y - 35
⇒ x - 7y = -30 (i)
Five years after,
Age of man = (x + 5)
Age of son = (y + 5)
According to question,
(x + 5) = 3 (y + 5)
⇒ x + 5 = 3y + 15
⇒ x - 3y = 10 (ii)
Now (ii) - (i),
(x - 7y) - (x - 3y) = -30 - 10
⇒ x - 7y - x + 3y = -40
⇒ -4y = - 40
∴ y = [tex]\frac{-40}{-4}[/tex]
= 10.
Putting the value of 'y' in (ii),
x - 3y = 10
⇒ x = 10 + 3y
⇒ x = 10 + 30 [ ∵ y = 10]
∴ x = 40.
∴ Present age of man = x = 40 years.
Present age of son = y = 10 years.
Hope it helps!
