When u put calcium it reacts slowly
When u put copper it does not react
When u put iron it reacts only when water is converted into steam
● Reaction of metals with water -
- Usually metals react with water to form a metal hydroxide with release of hydrogen gas.
According to their specific reactivity, each metals react differently with water.
1) Sodium literally explodes on contact with cold water.
Na + H2O ---> NaOH + H2
2) Magnesium reacts with hot boiling water.
Mg + H2O ---> Mg(OH)2 + H2
3) Iron reacts with steam only to give its hydroxide.
Fe + H2O ---> Fe(OH)3 + H2
4) Gold/Silver doesn't react with water in any state.
Hope this helps you...
