The law states that
" A pure chemical compound always consists of the same elements that are combined together in a fixed or definite proportion by mass".
Let's take an example.
In compound water, the ratio of mass of hydrogen to mass of oxygen is always 1:8 regardless what may be the source or quality of water be.
for example: In a compound such as water the ratio of mass of hydrogen to the mass of oxygen is always 1:8. Thus, if 9 grams of water is decomposed 1 gram of hydrogen and 8 grams of oxygen are always obtained.
