There are some nitrogen fixing bacteria which converts atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia which is readily available to plants. Azotobacter are free-living nitrogen fixing bacteria. Anabaena is a free-living nitrogen fixing bacteria. However, it also forms symbiotic association with plants like mosquito fern.
