This is because nitrates of monovalent alkali metals on heating give only oxygen gas and forms the respective metal nitrites. Silver Nitrate , Mercuric Nitrate and Magnesium Nitrate will produce brown gas on heating as it releases a mixture of reddish brown Nitrogen Dioxide and Oxygen and leave behind the respective metallic oxides.
