This means that energy of an object will remain constant. when an object falls freely from a height, it's potential energy decreases progressively, which should lead to an overall decrease in its energy. however, the kinetic energy of the object starts increasing progressively, which results in the total mechanical energy to remain the same, hence verifying the law of conservation of energy.
