Dinoflagellates:
It is one of the major groups of the kingdom Protista which includes diatoms.
Mostly marine and photosynthetic.
Appear yellow, green, brown or red depending on amount of pigment present in their cells.
Red dinoflagellates (e.g. Gonyaulax) undergo rapid multiplication and make the sea appear red (red tides).
Cells are covered by rigid plates made up of cellulose.
Some dinoflagellates release toxins which may even kill other organisms.
