1-: Increase in the focal length of the eye lens. This is due to inability of the ciliary muscles to contract.
2-: Shortening of the eyeball. When the eyeball becomes shorter than the normal, the distance between the retina and the eye lens decreases. As a result,image is formed behind the retina.

The defect of hypermetropia usually arises due to two main reasons as listed below
1. The focal length of the eye lens has become too long
2. The eyeball has become too small.
This defect can be corrected by using a convex lens of appropriate power.
