Convectional Rainfall
Convection just means from heating - you can get rainfall from convection just about anywhere in the world. Get a hot sunny day with enough moisture and you could get rainfall.
Generally the most active places in the world for convective rainfall are near the tropics for obvious reasons. But it can occur anywhere. Africa particuarly is very active around the equator.
Everywhere around the Earth, maybe with the exception of the polar areas. Most of the activity is between the tropics.
Lightning and thunder occur with and without rainfall. The type of rainfall has no determining factor in lightning and thunder occurrence.
