Similarities between beryllium and aluminum: Aluminium hydroxide and beryllium hydroxide react with excess alkali to form their respective ions. Both theseelements have the capacity to withstand the acid attack due to the presence of an oxide film on the surface of the metal.
Similarities are;
1) Both metals have a tendency to form covalent compounds e.g. the chlorides of both being covalent are soluble in organic solvents.
2) Both BeCl2 and AlCl3 act as a Lewis acids and are used as Friedel – Crafts catalyst.
