COUPLET
A couplet is a pair of lines in a poem that express an idea. Couplets are usually:
Two successive lines that rhyme and have the same meter.
Self-contained in grammatical
structure and meaning
Separated from other lines by a double line break
Used as units of composition in long poems
Couplets can be formal (closed) or run-on (open). In a formal couplet, each line is end-stopped. In a run-on couplet, the meaning of the first line continues to the second, which is called enjambment.
Poets use the quick pacing and brief language of couplets to make their poems memorable.
TAXONOMIC KEY
A taxonomic key is a tool used to identify a specific object. It's one of the most useful tools for scientists trying to identify an unknown organism.
A taxonomic key is a printed or computer-aided device that aids the identification of biological entities, such as: Plants, Animals, Fossils, Microorganisms, Pollen grains.
A taxonomic key consists of a series of choices, based on observed features of the plant specimen. The key includes a series of questions where each of which has two possible answers. By answering the questions in sequence, the operator of the key can determine the identity of the plant, animal, fungi or another organism.
There are two types of taxonomic keys:
Indented key/yoked key: Indents the leads of the couplet a equal distance from the left margin. The two choices are labelled 1 and1' or 1a and 1b.
Bracketed key: Both choices are given side by side.
A key creates a framework that can be used to sort a large amount of data. This allows the user to identify unrelated species that have no biological similarities.
