In general terms, "Asthma" can be defined as a disorder that causes the airways of the lungs to swell and become narrow, leading to wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing.

☆ Asthma is caused mainly due to inflammation in the airways of the lungs.
☆ When an asthma attack occurs, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight and the lining of the air passages swells.
☆ The swelling of the air passages results in the reduction of the amount of air that can pass by.
☆ In sensitive people, asthma can be triggered by be breathing in allergenic substances.
