What is elementary event?
An event with a single result in its sample space is known as an elementary event. It is also termed as a simple event or atomic event. If we explain it in terms of set theory, the elementary event is a singleton set. This event is said to be a single element taken from a sample space.
We know that an event is a result of some experiment. The elementary event is called the simplest result of that experiment.
Therefore, we may say that elementary events are collected into compound events, i.e. a compound event is broken into two or more smaller events known as elementary events.
