While sitar is a stringed instrument, manjira is a percussion instrument. Sitar has a pear-shaped body, with wide, long and hollow neck with tuning pegs on both front and sides.
Manjira consists of a pair of hand-held metal cymbals that the person has to hit against each other to produce a high-pitched percussion sound.
While sitar is professionally played by many masters, manjira is often used to give taal to music being played.
