According to Newton :-
Every body in this universe attracts every other body with respect to mass.
So this is the reason for gravitational force. But some people believe that it is due to a exchange of a particle known as graviton. But is is not yet proved..
Hope it helps u..
In the General Theory of Relativity, gravity is not considered a force at all. Gravity is the effect of curvature of four-dimensional space-time. Think of it like a heavy object put on a stretched rubber sheet. The sheet gets curved. Now, if any small ball is rolled, it follows a curved path on the sheet around the larger mass. This gives the appearance that the smaller ball is orbiting the larger mass.
In this theory, gravity and acceleration are the same thing.
Now, the third major field is Quantum Mechanics, which deals with extremely small particles, where you can't apply the normal laws of Physics.
Here, each force (here gravity is a force) is thought to be carried by some particles. It has been theorised that gravity is due to being carried by particles of spin 2 (If you know what that means, good. If not, leave it) called graviton.
The existence of graviton is not yet proved.
The Quantum Mechanics and The General Theory of Relativity contradict each other. Both have been extremely beneficial to us, but we need to sort out the problem.
Today, one of the major goals in Physics is to find a theory that is consistent with both. It's already got a name: The Quantum Theory of Gravity
There's a new promising theory: The String Theory. Here, all particles are replaced by strings. Thus, according to this theory, everything in the universe is considered to be made of strings. This is a promising approach to the Quantum Theory of Gravity.
But we can't definitely say for now.
Thus, still today we are now aware of the real nature and cause of Gravity.
