Buddha tried two basic ways to spread his message to the people: He used Prakrit since it was a language of the common people so he could spread his message to large no. of people. He gave the message to think proactively instead of following him blindly

I think Buddha's story might have held the message of the grief and suffering that everyone has to face after the death of beloved once be it the man with positions and power. Everyone is treated equally by death. Everyone has to face the same sadness and grief pain when death comes to any beloved one. Also everyone born on this earth has to die a day regardless of their power and position.
