suppose your going to A from B
displacement is shortest distance between initial and final point.
there is no another path between A and B
so,the distance is equal to displacement.
I hope this will help you
First of all, let me tell you what is distance and what is displacement:
Distance is a measurable quantity, which is the maximum length covered by a moving body.
Displacement is the shortest distance covered by the body.
When a body is moving in a straight line, the distance is equal to the displacement. This is because the total distance travelled by the body is itself the shortest distance travelled.
Take an example. In the diagram, I am proving you the two cases.
In the first case, the body travels from point A to B. The black line (along the road) indicates the total distance travelled by him and the red line indicates the shortest distance (displacement) by him.
In the second case, when the body is moving in a straight line, the total distance is equal to the shortest distance, hence the distance is equal to the displacement.
HOPE MY ANSWER IS SATISFACTORY....
Thanks`
