When water is added to sulphur dioxide sulphuric acid is formed.
Reaction:
SO₂ + H₂O → H₂SO₄
As, we know that
In acidic medium blue litmus paper is turned into red colour. Due to the action of H⁺ pesent in acid with the litmus paper.
So, now in the above reaction the product formed is sulphuric acid (H₂SO₄).
As it is an acid it turns litmus paper into red colour, when you dip it into the solution.
