This mainboard has a maximum FSB speed of 1066MHz. A 2.4GHz Core2Duo or a similar Core2Quad will be a reasonable CPU for you. Check the FSB speed of your CPU if its 1066MHz or less, before buying. Please note, The intel 945 chipset is an old model and probably obsolete except in Netbooks.
Intel Q6600 or E6600 are nice for the money. People with the Q6600 do well with overclocking and gaming. Also the quad core does well with rendering music, image and video files. Some newer CPUs are E6300, E6500, and E7500. The Q6600 is the fastest. There are some faster CPUs but not really worth the money spent. If you start getting into more pricey chips, you may as well get an up to date motherboard with DDR3 RAM and a faster FSB. A board which runs the Intel i7 920 CPU is a reasonable upgrade. There is no FSB on those boards (1366 series).
You don't need to do all that. Just grab a Q6600. It runs cool, so you don't need a fancy CPU fan.
Check to be sure your board is compatible as far as CPU voltage. Some newer chips are pretty fast for the money, but run at a higher voltage.
I also have this model 945 my processor is core 2 duo 2.20Ghz E4500 ........ is speed is very much good I SUGGEST you for core 2 duo 2.20Ghz E4500. Its price is 3500-4500rs
