Rhodesia. In 1888 Cecil John Rhodes, an ambitious colonial entrepreneur, formed the British South Africa Company (BSAC) and colonised Zimbabwe, establishing the capital at Fort Salisbury (Harare). The colonists appropriated farmlands, and by 1895 the new country was being referred to as Rhodesia
The struggle is led by opposition parties and civil society against the rule of ZANU-PF (Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front) underPresident Robert Mugabe, who has been the sole ruler since the country attained independence from Britishcolonial rule
