Sounds like it's overheating. Did a cooling fan quit inside the case?
Your system may be overheating due to excessive dust blocking airflow and/or a failure of the thermal dissipation, such as case and processor fans.
Another possibility, especially if you've recently done any upgrades to your system such as installing a new graphics card, is your power supply shutting down to prevent damage or fire from an overload.
It can also be a compatibilty issue with the IE 8... just a thought but i would check overheating inside the case...

Your computer repeatedly reboots at random, or randomly shuts down and won't start again for several minutes? There might be several reasons why this occurs, but overheating should be your prime suspect.

check your internals. it sounds like your cpu fan is unplugged or your ram/video cards are overheating. i would make sure all your wires are in correctly. hope this helps. :]
