in meiosis the The n cell is converted into 2n cell first and Then during fusion the the 23 chromosome is Shared by Both parents i.e - male and female then 46 chromosome is obtained neonate in the uterus , so in this process the chromosome number is reduced to half first hence it is called reduction division .
