the rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than in terrestrial organisms because :
Aquatic organisms take in dissolved oxygen in water. The concentration of the dissolved oxygen in water is comparatively lower than the concentration of oxygen in the air.(which is consumed by the terrestrial organisms)
Aquatic animals take in oxygen dissolved in water .The amount of oxygen in water is fairly low compared to the amount of oxygen in the air. Therefore ,rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than in terrestrial one's.
