Oogenesis stops during pregnancy because there is more amount of progesterone present which regulates the endometrium required for foetus growth. Hence progesterone is also called pregnancy hormone.
Presence of more amount of progesterone suppress the production of LH(Luteinizing hormone)and FSH(Follicular stimulating hormone) which is responsible for oogenesis. So oogenesis doesn't occure.
And more progesterone is released during pregnancy by the corpus luteum. Which maintains the endometrium and hence menstruation doesn't occur.

In oogenesis, diploid oogonium go through mitosis until one develops into a primary oocyte, which will begin the first meiotic division, but then arrest; it will finish this division as it develops in the follicle, giving rise to a haploid secondary oocyte and a smaller polar body...
